YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT SOARING IN THE SOUTH WEST

1 in every 3 of the South West's 16-17-year-olds is now out of work and the highest since the start of the recession. A new company called the Aspirations Group is targeting the youth of the region to help teenagers looking for training & Work placement opportunities - and will be paid £95 per week.
 

Tom Fleming, Aspirations Group Manager for ‘Teenagers Back into Work’, said: “We are offering 16 to 18 year olds the chance of 3-months paid training at £95 per week. It starts with 3 weeks of literacy & numeracy, and employability skills, and the rest is work placement training with local employers - that could lead to full time employment opportunities.”

Kevin Kelway, South West Regional Media Coordinator for A4e, said: “A4e is working very closely with Lime Training across the South West who are running the programme. The government has recently announced a white paper which includes a pledge that everyone under 25 in the area will be guaranteed a job, training or work experience after six months’ unemployment.”
